Case Study

Grant to Makoto Kwai Judo Club

Background

We were approached by the Makoto Kwai Judo Club for funding for a judo mat for safety within the classes. The trustees of the Greens Norton Village Hall Trust committee contemplated this grant opportunity and it was considered to be an ideal option for funding from the charity.

Although not located in Greens Norton the Trustees felt that the small amount involved and the expectation that the participants would come from many of the local villages meant that this application met all of our key criteria to be an excellent use of Trust money for the wider South Northants community.

The Makoto Kwai Judo Club were in a position where funding was required for their classes to continue. As a trust, we would always encourage our residents of Greens Norton and the surrounding area to participate in activities including Judo for the physical and mental benefits this type of activity brings.

Specific needs

The Makoto Kwai Gym approached us with a specific need to purchase crash mats for their classes. This ensures the safety of the participants and allows the instructors to teach specific moves and practices that wouldn’t be possible without the equipment.

The Grant Process

The application from the Makoto Kwai Judo Club was received and considered before being granted. The Judo club is very grateful for their funding and have expressed their gratitude:

“The Makoto Kwai Judo club would like to say a huge thank you to the Greens Norton Village Hall Trust for their support in purchasing a crash mat for the Judo Club. The application process was straightforward, and we recommend that other sports clubs consider applying for a grant.”

“Judo is a great sport for all ages and abilities; our youngest member is 5, and our oldest member is 69. If you are looking to build your own or your child’s confidence, improve fitness and learn self-defence in a fun and safe environment, then you should give Judo a try.”

If you are considering starting a new hobby, then why not give Judo a try?

The club meets on Wednesday evenings at Shutlanger village hall.

There are two classes:

  • 5 – 16-year olds: 18.30 – 19.30
  • Adults 19.30 – 21.00

Apply for a Grant

Greens Norton Village Hall Trust would welcome funding applications from similar groups, clubs and disciplines from Greens Norton and the surrounding area. We understand that it is essential to have various recreational facilities close to our village for both physical health as well as emotional wellbeing. With funding cuts and budgets being slashed throughout the country, it is important to us to be able to share our grants and help out where we can ensure community groups around us can continue to support our residents.

Throughout 2025 and beyond, we welcome further funding of similar projects. Please contact us to be considered for a grant for your sport/music/theatrical/hobby club. Supporting activities that contribute to the livelihood of our community is one of our main purposes.
