Case Study

Grant to Towcestrians Sports Club – New Tennis Lights Installation

Background

During the winter of 2024/25, the tennis court lights at Towcestrians Sports Club began to fail. Matches were being postponed due to lack of light, and evening coaching sessions were badly affected. Members became increasingly frustrated.

By spring it became clear that all six lights were old, unreliable, and costly to run due to outdated technology. The replacement cost was estimated at around £10,000 – funds the tennis section simply did not have.

Specific Need

Without reliable lighting, evening tennis was no longer viable, which would have had a serious impact on both members and the wider local community who use the courts. With no reserves available to cover the cost, the future of evening tennis looked bleak.

The Treasurer was made aware of the Greens Norton Village Hall Trust and immediately reached out for advice.

The Grant Process

After contacting the Trust, the Treasurer was invited to complete an application form, which included details of how the improved facilities would benefit local residents. The application was submitted within a few days.

Following a positive initial response, three quotations were sought. The most competitive came from a club member who runs an electrical company and was also able to guarantee completion before the end of August – essential as the evenings were already drawing in.

Approval was then confirmed by the Greens Norton Trust, allowing the project to move forward.

Outcome

Within a month, the new tennis lights were installed and fully operational. Members are delighted to once again enjoy evening matches and coaching without interruption.

The new system is not only reliable but far more energy efficient, reducing running costs – much to the Treasurer’s relief.

Towcestrians Sports Club is hugely grateful to the Greens Norton Village Hall Trust for their support. Without their grant, it would not have been possible to complete this vital project.

We would encourage any club, group or community organisation with a genuine need to consider applying.
