Case Study

Grant to Greens Norton Parish Council

Background

The Parish Council had provided two defibrillators for the village over the years, initially on the wall of the Post Office/Shop and then when they purchased the old phone box into that – each time Parish Funds were used.

The PC had arranged specialist training for use to interested villagers and this was done at the Community Centre, this led to the suggestion that this would be a good location for another defib as it was near the sports field and the playing fields where grandparents might be.

Specific needs

The location for a new defib was deemed to be sensible and appropriate but the use of parish funds where these are getting tighter and tighter seemed unreasonable where there are already two existing defibs (plus the one in Duncote).

The PC resolved to ask the Village Trust as the use would be broadly for the safety and security of parishioners – although there is hope this will not be used…

The Grant Process

The new Village Trust made the process of grant application as easy as they could, the PC as applicant made the recognition of the local need clear and the paperwork was relatively easy as the Responsible Financial Officer of a PC always has the right numbers to hand.

The grant we needed fell within the £5,000 maximum and our need was clear.

Outcomes

The works were commissioned by the Parish Council and this was completed in January 2024.
